The better build quality with similar specification and selling at more affordable price from its competitors is the driver to push Samsung downard.

Atleast there is profit now...the way things are shaping up they might end up in losses in coming years...

They need to get rid of the super bloated / laggy touchwizz because I love my galaxy s5 but I also hate it due to what I said and it will probably be my last Samsung device and gonna go for the M9 next time.

AnonD-72853, 30 Oct 2014Developing a better UI than TouchWiz might help. Otherwise, expect those sales to decline. ... moreno need to change, just improve is fine too. haha

AnonD-26236, 30 Oct 2014I think that they can still redeem themselves by correctly pricing and pushing the A series.Sure they can but "will they?" is the question

            1) don't release a new version of galaxy something something by the hour
            2) don't charge near flagship prices for low to midranged spec phones
            3) don't dish out Touchwiz garbage anymore, stick to stock android while adding value by giving Samsung specific apps and features without need to change the look of the normal OS.
            4) point no:3 means faster and easier updates, along with the reduced product portfolio to concentrate on.
            5) Put that massive electronics R&D to good use like research on improving battery tech
            6) Employing an industrial design team that can do better job with ploy-carbonate plastic? We don't need no metal unibody nonsense, plastic is just fine when it's done right. People got fed up with 'plastic' because Samsung didn't have a clue how to do it with class like so many other OEMs have shown how it can be done.

This can go on but that's for starts.

i sure the market share will decline again by this quarter due to price which is not competitive to chinese OEMs especially XiaoMi, Lenovo & huawei

I'll make it simpler for you: Competition is putting out much better speced phones for much lower prices while samsung puts out garbage for a higher price and calls it "mainstream", while their flagships cost even more making apple's offerings not so bad, when such a thought comes to the consumer's mind that Apple is now a better alternative you know Samsung has lost the plot.

No wonder they only sell mid range phones, as the only high end devices they offer are huge phablets!!!

The Alpha being the exception being almost high end.
Give us a device with FHD, 3GB and the 810 64 bit cpu in the width of the Alpha, and you will have a lot of postponed buys released.

I'm sure I'm not the only one eagerly awaiting a high end PHONE-sized device....

good! now that korean sob's will learn to manufacture much premium devices instead of cheap disappointing plastic devices. i'm really happy about this financial result , it's about time their cheap and low quality products face the real life result. i bow to the people who choosed HTC ONE M8 or Apple iPhone 5s or LG G3 or Sony Xperia Z2-Z3 or Motorola MotoX instead of poorly build Samsung Galaxy S5.

Forgot to add: I have seen most of Samsung's introductions of products. They are a joke, compared to Apple. The other android manufacturers dont have it better either but they dont invest billions in PR and marketing like samsung.

                                      Here is what happened:
Lost low end segment to moto e, lumia 520,525,530,and 630, regional oem

Mid range segment to moto g, regional and chinese oem, t2ultra and desire816.

High end to z2, m8, nexus, etc

Ther strategy of releasing region specific devices backfired..
No lte note3, s5 for India.
Their UI is still a deal breaker.
                                      And overpricing.

Anonymous, 30 Oct 2014With semiconductors the only profitable part of Samesung these days, it will be interesting to... moreThey can focus on Foundry side of things, fab chips for other design houses. Samsung semiconductors are fine and have great depth in R&D when it comes to FABing.

The Mobile dept just got greedy trying to peddle overpriced not so great mid ranged devices along with their flagships. The competition undercut them with much lower prices for flagship specs, so in one sweep their flagships and their mid range mainstream phones became a big yawn for most consumers who think with their wallets unlike Apple zealots
