Companies complain endless about people downloading movies without paying for them, but then make it such a pain they do nothing be give incentives for torrenting and otherwise acquiring content.

When will they understand that the reason people do this is mostly because it's actually easier and works better. Why would they pay for inferior and annoying to use technology, when they can get easier and better for free.

I think most people would be happy to pay a reasonable price, if they were actually being offered good technology and ease of use, instead of a million fragmented closed systems, each with their own interface and technical requirements.

Plus, as you said, people will find workarounds.
So Netflix is not really shooting themselves in the foot. They are probably forced to put this restriction by the license holders.
                                In short, it's a non-news.

You comment shows you know nothing about the actual reasons for "rooting" an Android device, so go find somewhere else to peddle your fruity phone inspired myths.

all the people i know have rooted devices without any pirate content.. oh and can install netflix of course.. and anyone using this to copy netflix videos (lol..) knows how to do this (and obviously have no security issues)

at the end of the day its only a problem for people who do not root - because they're the majority. they lose freedom until the day where you get one ad every 5min of film and pay 100usd/month for your movies and there is nothing you will be able to do about it. This is the real target of these changes, nothing else.

Its only root users shooting themselves in the foot. Exposing themselves to attack.
