The best-selling smartphone in the world is the 4.7" iPhone.

You got 5.2 because it was the smallest option given in choices. Nice way to conduct a survey.

been using the s8+ for a few weeks now, always loved big screens but bigger screens with different aspect ratios i find to be 100x better, but even then I came from a nexus 6P so the s8 has the same screen size, just in a more uniform profile, i feel even if the s8 had slightly bigger bezels (nothing in comparison the the 6P though if I'm honest) then it would still work well.... haven't understood the point in a small phone screen since the iphone 6 came out, working in a phone shop means I see more iPhone 5s' and SE's than i care to admit, and I genuinely feel like a giant holding one... bigger screens have better benefits, but everybody has their preferences

This was a great poll. Well done! I have tried most sizes including a 6 inch Huawei Mate 7, a couple of 5.7 inch phones and the Sony Xperia X compact at 4.6 inches. My preference is definitely toward the smaller end, ideally 5 inches, maximum 5.2. Fits in my shirt pocket better, not too heavy or excessively long. Easy to reach all parts of the display with one hand. There is nothing I need a larger display for.

Nobody needs big screens with weird ratios.
We only need relatively small bezels in a conventional ratio, or in short, a true compact phone.
Is it hard for OEMs to understand that?
Xiaomi Mi Mix is close, but just needs to hide the front camera inside the phone, and will just pop out when in use, just like how we eject our SIM Card trays.

Literally --Half-- the posts in the comments said "I wanted to pick ~4.7-5.0 but there was no option so I just choose the 5.2 as it was smallest.

You say the exclusion was valid because there aren't relevant options at that smaller size, but that's completely irresponsible if you're asking people what they --want--. This could have been a chance for GSMA to produce data that might give manufacturers the interest in building smaller phones, but by ignoring that completely the pool results are not representative of user wishes and the winner is not what people wanted. Sure, you can conclude that more people prefer a phone smaller than 5.3 than prefer any single option above 5.3... But I think that c could be said for --any-- arbitrary line drawn.

If I did the same poll in reverse making 5.2 the biggest option and choosing various sub-5" values for the others, I would get the same conclusion you have here but the results would clearly be totally invalid.

The omission here completely invalidates the poll. Shame on you GSMA.
