It's Google PHOTOS that only uploads in high quality. Also, unless you are printing your phone photos in large prints who cares if its in OG quality vs high. If it is going on social media or being sent to someone in messaging it will be compressed to shit anyways so high vs original quality is just pointless argument.

Other than that, you will still have your photos from your SD card with "original" quality. But the question is how often do you revisit/ re-viewing those photos anyway.
A lot of people taking tons of photos every week( if not day), and 99% of those photos are save in your phone/SD card/ cloud storage and you'll never look at them again!

You can live without it, that's for sure. What's not sure is anyone's budget for 128/256/512gb storage, 24/7 data/wifi including your cloud's storage limit, your phone giving up on you, OR you giving up on being careful and unexpectedly broke your phone software/hardware-wise.
My 2 cents.

An average of 10 full res pics this phone is... more10 photos of 72 mb ( the file size of a raw from the phone) equals 720 MB. That is more than 150 times less than approximately 11p gb storage out of the box.

I am completely gobsmacked and utterly surprised in the most positive manner of the cameras.
Although it is not perfect with inconsistancies of colours, lack of dynamic range, the overall amount of cameras (could've put 2 cameras within 2 others = 3 in the back total), the quality of the 108MP is astounding.
Processing could be faster, double front speakers would be appreciated and maybe a slightly smaller size and I'd be sold. Surely, Xiaomi will release an upgraded version of this within a couple months, looking forward to it.

I'm pretty sure the people complaining about no SD have never had a phone with no SD before, I actually forget I don't have a card slot because there's so much storage built in.

That's perspective distortion. It has nothing to do with the lens. It depends on the distance and on the angle.
