MLM.R, 12 Nov 2019Yeah that's correct.. not huge differences between both. but between 845 to 855 no 845+ right?Actually SD 845 to SD 855 was quite a big upgrade, from 2400-2500 single core to 3500-3600 in Geekbench 4, that's 40-50% improvement.
If the SD 865 scores 4200-4320, that's just 20%, but that's just my prediction, we'll see.

VKSA, 12 Nov 2019why no cortex A56 power efficient core and only upgrading high performance core cortex A76 to ... moreThey work in different cities and departments.
The next little core "Cortex A56" may actually be cancelled. There's been some chatter about it in the development scene. So we might see the end of DynamIQ with the ARMv8 architecture in 2021 with the next Cortex A78 and the next Mali G78 on 5nm lithography.

The reason is that ARM is trying to advance to the next architecture: ARM v9.
This is slated to ship in 2022 with +5nm lithography. It's supposed to use a newer interconnect (HybrID*) like AMD's "Infinity Fabric" instead of DynamIQ or big.LITTLE clusters. It posses a lot of AI/Machine Learning capabilities, particularly when it comes to translating x86 code to RISC. It will debut with a new microarchitecture for the big core (Cortex A82*), and the little core (Cortex A62*), and the new (Mali G82*) gpu. The aim with this platform is to be able to scale up from small watches, to thermally constrained phones, upto actively cooled laptop/desktop devices. Basically, it is designed to compete directly against AMD's Ryzen and Intel's Core-i chipsets much more directly.

          *names approximated for visual purposes.

Current maximum performance available in phones is utter shit compared to what's needed to run actual AAA games or high quality VR/AR games on mobile phones. Not everybody needs this kind of performance. But then again, not everybody needs a flagship device.

128mb ram was more than enough to get people to the freaking moon!!! Why would anyone ever need any more ram than this?

The problem between Apple and other SOC developers isn't just performance. The big problem is performance per watt. There are situations where the difference is three times.

Why they stretching 600 series gpu next year. There lifespan are merely 2 years why this time. So disappointed.

Haha, i still remember the days of core wars. Advertisement of 12-core maddness.. more the merrier. Now they stick with 8 and 6 for Apple. No one talks about cores anymore.. they know who is the King at the moment. But thats ok, Qualcomm is not competing with Apple's chip. Its real enemy is intel.

They putting effort to take down Intel with SQ1. They wish to break into the desktop market.
Intel will not go down without a fight, they surely made a deal with microsoft to prevent x64 program from working with arm emulation as a delay. 2020 is the year to either break Intel or die trying.

When microsoft release their Duo and Neo, they are testing each platform.. the next intel roadmap release will either spell doom for intel, or extend its life. But expect a great fight no less. The next intel chip upgrade will be like what haswell is to sandy.

Q are "milking" the market with their dominant position by making big money on small incremental enhancements to the SoC. We want to see 'leapfrog' upgrades not trickling out minor upgrades. Come on Q, get with the game plan!

Also, it's going to get much harder for Apple to move forward as they are approaching the limits of what an architecture can do from a single core, and we're also approaching the limits of the processes and clock speed (~2.8-3 GHz is pretty much the hard limit of mobile processors without getting high power consumption)

I'm expecting a consolidation in performance. Qualcomm and ARM will catch up slowly to Apple as Apple finds it harder and harder to move forward against the process and silicon limits.
