Tgetruthteller, 16 Jan 2020I agree I remember back in 2010 I was buying a 22inch TV I asked is it 1080p the sales person ... moreIts exactly like that.
Back in 2014 apple phones had 1GB of ram and was enough now they plan to give 6GB ram just to play games like fortnite.
For any other this apple OS is so optimised it can hande all non game apps with just 1-2GB ram even when multitasking.
That was just example.
Of course android devices needs more just because of said reason the android is not that optimized. But with 4GB of ram the phone will handle anything everything and all.

It's just to justify the higher smart phone prices and keep the industry scaling. Its the same as 12gb ram no phone application needs more than 4gb ram to run Smooth. Games are the most cpu and memory intensive apps for a phone to run. The most powerful games right now are Fortnite, pubg, call of duty mobile which all run at high settings very smoothly with 4gb ram on my phone even with all my other apps open. The marketing is giving you higher spec numbers in new phones to make you think you need them.

I hope their new 'compact' (or their 'compact lineup') fits my pocket.

I need to buy a new phone and... seriously... the old XZ2 still shines, just because it is relatively compact. The XZ2 is actually still big when compared to my current smartphone... but... well... I'm running out of options since no major brand has the 'bright' idea of launching a phone which fits our pockets.

If human eye is unable to spot differences onn a FHD or 1024p or 2K compared to 4k on a small screen as 6 inches.
If i add Ferrari logo on a Peugeot car i will still have a Peugeot car even with Ferrari logo.
        This is the same.
You can have even the 20k screen but on a 6 inch size Human eye is unable to spot any difference and so its nothing apart a costly powerhungry gimmick not worth to have.

Its exactly same like having an IPXX resistance when a company cant give you water damage warranty.
For that case any IPXX is completely useless bvecause when your phone gets water damage you just paid more for something which doesnt helped you at all.
Ubnless your device isnt imune to water damage like submarines it have no sense to have water resistance.

Sir you obviously don't understand what a gimmick is. All phones are starting to go 4k, because content is going in that direction. I find it funny how Sony introduces phone innovations that become standard in all phones, yet we have die hard Apple, Samsung and now Huawei lovers that call them gimmicks until the brands they love play catch up and all of a sudden it's not a gimmick but a necessary standard.

this brand is in need of a product designer specifically for phones, all their product have a beauty in it, except the phone, the phone is exaggeratedly so bad, it even hurts your eyes when you even just take a glance

Samsung is the worst when it comes to this (considering all markets here), wtf is the Galaxy Jean2 for example, or Galaxy Wide4? Putting the year at the end is more confusing than people think. Lets say someone asked me, "What phone do you have?", I say "Galaxy J5". Now they will have to ask me which year is it... I have the 2015 model.

I am not buying a new phone unless they release something in that size.... Oh wait.. it's not 2011. anymore... For god sake man... Compact phone was not something we want to be compact. Compact means small by today standards! Xperia 5 is not compact okay? It's a compact version of Xperia 1. Compacts of today standard are around 5.8 inch and 144mm of height. If you want a smaller phone then make a time machine! My girlfriend loved her beloved Xperia Z3. She had to buy a new phone eventually because it get really old and guess what? That new phone was taller by 19mm in height and is also considered compact by standards of today. Go figure..

Their naming makes perfect sense I'd say.
The lower is number, the more advanced and expensive the model is.

Xperia 0 - most expensive and advanced model. 5K display with a wide array of cameras.
Xperia 1 - 4K display and triple camera. Perhaps some distinctive differencies.
Xperia 3 - 4K or FHD model with triple camera, new form factor (arc) and compact dimensions.
Xperia 5 - smaller brother of Xperia 1 with FHD display and classic form factor.
Xperia 8 - model with midrange camera and processor, but packed with flagship materials, water resistance, etc.
                                Xperia 9 - former Xperia 10 plus.
                                Xperia 10 - well... Xperia 10. :P
                                And Xperia 11 (?) or L3.

Decimal numbers like .1, .2 and so long mean generation of the device.

So, for example, Xperia 1 means 1st generation, and next year model will be Xperia 1.1

This naming scheme sounds pretty clear to me.

Because apart from being very expensive they have nothing special worth buy.
