Xiaomi sold budget phones for years on minimum profit even incurring losses in certain cases.

Sales aren't clear indicative of the overall quality of the product.
Ferraris are sold in lesser quantity than Toyota, does that mean that Toyota is a better car?
Perhaps we could say that not all people will use the Xperia 1's standout features, but the fact that you consider them to be "inferior" because of that is a big bulls*** on your part.
It's purely dependent on what you'd need on a smartphone.
Xperias aren't for you, but they aren't, in general, anything worse than what's offered by other brands in the competition.

Phones should not have more than 4Gb. It is stupid to leave tons of apps running in background. Computers work well with 4Gb, even older ones.
Just few little secrets ....
- Ram and storage have more than one supplier. The UFS from one supplier does not have same speed from another supplier.
- when you see two 6" 19:9 FHD oled from same supplier, does not necessarily mean both are equal. There are many screens available.
Sony is not the one that buy cheaper parts for flagships. Even XZ Premium from 2017 has USB C 3.1, while there are 2019 phones that use 2.1.
Xperia 1 and 5 have Gorilla 6 on both sides. If I am not wrong only Note 10 and Mate 30 Pro have too. Also Sony is using same military certification like LG phones.
Xperia cost as much as Galaxy or Iphone to be made. Unlike phones that retail price is $400-500 that probably dont cost even $300 to be made.
I think $1000 is too much for a phone, no matter the brand.
If price were he issue, all people needed to do is wait few months and get them when they reach $500-600. But still people dont buy anyway.
If you want a $470 phone, better buying the HTC U19e. It lacks the SD855, but unlike Xiaomi and Honor , it has IP68/stereo speakers boom sound, iris scanner and better UI.

I'm a Sony fan but Jesus, no wonder they're losing money they were supposed to focus. Yet this name convention is a mess. They haven't had a cohesive naming convent since XZ series. All they need are 3 models for each range. High end: 5.0", 5.5",6.0". Followed by the mid at same screen sizes. Give highest end features to high end, 2K-4K screens, multi-camera setups. Limit mid range to HD, and dual cameras.
Done. They can even differiate further by using OLED, vs LCD, wireless vs non wireless charging etc.

Sony, to catch up with the trend please give us a proper face unlock, in-display fingerprint scanner and reverse wireless charge.
Set a new trend by implenenting in-display stereo speakers cause i think samsung is going with the indisplay selfie camera. Would be best if you can do both.
Give us an option to save RAW files for photos and videos.
We know sony is great in battery managment like the xperia 5. Just give us a bigger capacity so people will go crazy.
I think sony deliberately exclude fast charging brick in their retail box to encourage slow/normal charging rates for battery longevity.

Everybody knows Sony makes phones, even as far back as the Sony-Ericsson days. The truth is, their devices inspire nothing. That is it. Lame, boring and outdated designs and so-so specs are not nearly enough to fight against iPhones, Samsungs and Huaweis. Just face it!

I don't know why Sony isn't marketing their phones. It almost drives me insane. It's not that people don't want to pay Sony prices, it's that people don't know Sony even makes phones. The Xperia 1 for example is a hell of a handset... Barely anyone knows about it tho.

The naming convention has not been confirmed, the rumour that what is known as xperia 5 would be xperia 1s or xperia 1 compact was not true.

Will it be able to accept incoming calls and make outgoing calls? Because my Sony smartphone failed to do so after a few months.
