Well the price is insane.
Same device 2 years later will be a lot cheaper but in 2 years later if the Moto will still play on a foldable field the future phones will be top end specs for cheaper pricing because this new technology will be 2 years old.

People want this phone because of memories, and because it's folding smartphone. Price is high, but some will still buy it.

Midrange chipset, weak battery, probs also a bad camera... for 1800 Euros...
I would never spend over 550 Euros on a phone. 500 Euros is a limit, eventually 550 if we're talking about more expensive device on a discount.
And other thing I'd never do is - Buy a folding phone. No IP68, screen is just soft and fragile, the device itself is fragile... but I see why other people might want that.

Anonymous, 19 Nov 2019Horizontal means not ^v. The folding motion is up/down, thus this is a vertically folding device.left/right arrows didn't display

I think the smart money is on the Microsoft Surface Duo. I just refuse to be locked into carrier for 2-years. My LG G5, Essential Phone, and Google Pixel 3 all were bought unlocked. Verizon is pricey. And I want the flexibility of switching to a different carrier when I feel like it under prepaid. My guess is the Surface Duo will be $1000-$1200.

Even though Motorola is reviving an old flip phone design which is an iconic one at that, I think the Surface Duo seems to be more practical. The Razr looks better. The Surface Duo seems more productive. But man, would I love to get the Razr! I would try to win it in a contest if they had one.

At this point it doesn't matter if it costs 1800$ or 10 000$ because the only people who would buy it are people who have absolutely no regard for money anyway.

I don't have any market research to back this up, but IMO they would've made much more money if they priced it realistically, optimally close to $700 mark, but at least under $1000. For a lot of people the original Razr was a dream phone of their childhood and they could've cashed in on the nostalgia, but $1800 is something absolute majority of people would never pay for a phone, regardless of how cool it is. If it was for $700, I can easily imagine how they could've sold hundreds of thousands of these devices. At $1800 I doubt they'll pass 50k units sold.

Kingslayer, 18 Nov 2019$1500 is still tough to swallow when we can only assume Motorola will release a successor with... more400$ would mean Bankruptcy for Motorola.

This phone is already much cheaper than its foldable siblings.
Snapdragon 710 is a downside, 2500mAh battery is another one.
If the phone was running solely on its 2'7 screen, but
on a 6'2 POLED, it's not gonna pass the day.

So yeah, mid range CPU, terrible battery life, and probably a not so great camera.
                                        All this for EUR1600.

Yet it's gonna sell like hotcakes
